10 Things To Think About Before You Give Up

Worse than when someone else kills your dream, is when you decide to give up, kill your dream, and quit all on your own. Maybe you don’t give up altogether but scale back your dreams, settle for less than the best, and in the end, lower the bar for yourself.

Starting a business is hard, and at times, it is nothing but a struggle. Then there are days where if it is not a struggle that there is absolutely no forward movement one-way or the other. Sure, at times I think I should give up but as hard as it may be on those days, I know that if I ever did give up that dealing with the knowing that I quit would be 100 times harder.

We all get to places along our journeys where to quit and to give up is not only an option, it’s also a very attractive one. However, just because things are not going your way, your circumstances are difficult, your dreams have been delayed or you don’t feel motivated, you don’t have to stop… you don’t have to give up, unless you really, really, really want to.

The next time you want to give up on your dreams or your goals, or on anything, and I can guarantee there WILL be a next time… just remember:

  1. The reason you started in the first place. – When you began your journey or your quest, you had a purpose and a desired result in mind. When you want to give up remind yourself of your original reason for starting.
  2. You are probably closer than you think. – Often when people give up on a goal or a dream they are closer to their success than they realize. Think of the miners during the various gold rushes who gave up a claim to someone new who then found gold the next day after the original miners had given up. Keep digging.
  3. Write out your goals again if you need to.Writing down your goals makes them more tangible, so if you haven’t done that lately, do it again.
  4. You can lose faith, but don’t lose momentum. – It’s OK to doubt, it’s not so OK to stop. Even when your faith fades, keep moving. Eventually your momentum will feed into your faith, just as your faith feeds into your momentum.
  5. No one who has accomplished anything got there by giving up. – The greats (all of them) had reasons to give up, but the greats (all of them) kept going. They were all told “NO” by the world around them yet they kept on going.
  6. Turn over more stones. – Keep looking for the resources that you need along your way. Read more books, find mentors and others who will assist, guide, and counsel you if needed. Keep looking for other opportunities that will come up along the way that will help you as well
  7. Don’t give others the satisfaction. – Your critics are waiting for you to stop… prove them wrong,
  8. Don’t disappoint your supporters. – Believe it or not there are many people supporting you, who believe in you, and are holding your vision for you as you go along your path. Prove them right and make them proud.
  9. Fear regret! – If you don’t pursue your goals with passion… You will regret it for the rest of your life. When you look back on your life, will you regret stopping?
  10. How will your story end? – Your story is going to be one heck of a story when you finally make it, but only if you make it. When you want to give up, ask yourself if this is how you want your story to end…

It can be tempting sometimes to give up on a dream or a goal especially if you have been struggling along with limited to zero results. If that happens, just remember these ten thoughts. I know they help me and I hope that they help you too.
