5 Ways To Avoid Pain And Suffering

pain and suffering“Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.” This anonymous quote teaches us that we have a choice on how we want to handle the “discomforts” of life. In reality, any one of us can live an existence free of both pain and suffering if we chose too.

On the surface, a life free of all pain and suffering seems like a good deal. I mean who in their right mind likes to deal with the pain and suffering of life? It sucks away your energy and the bottom line; it is not a fun way to live.

We already do just about anything we can in order to put off or escape any pain and suffering, it’s the biggest reason we don’t get things “done” in life. When it comes to making changes in life, “avoiding pain and suffering” are the greatest motivators as well as the tipping point on whether we are going to change or not. We only change when the pain and suffering of not changing finally outweighs the pain and suffering of actually making a change.”

5 Ways To Avoid Pain And Suffering

As the title implies, there are some ways to avoid all pain in suffering, but really… is that what you really want? Here is a list of the simplest ways to prevent pain and suffering from ever entering your life:

  • Never have any deep personal relationships! – Never fall in love, never allow yourself to be vulnerable to another person, and NEVER commit yourself to a relationship for life.
  • Forget about ever being a leader. – Why should you set yourself up for the challenges and pitfalls of being a leader or having the responsibility for making weighty decisions for both yourself and others? Who needs that? In addition, being a leader can be very lonely, isolating, and scary place to be. Let someone else deal with that pain and suffering, you don’t need it.
  • Never expect too much, especially from yourself. – A lot of pain and suffering comes with disappointment, especially if you fall short on your goals, dreams, aspirations, expectations of yourself. Keep the bar LOW folks, and you will never feel the pain and suffering from not meeting your expectations.
  • Do Not Help Other People. – Most people are helpless and are never going to change; why should you take on their problems and their pain and suffering? Don’t add to the pain and suffering in your life by taking on the pain and suffering from someone else’s.
  • Give up all risk taking! – If you take a risk and fall flat on your face, yeah… there is going to be pain and suffering. Even more so if you take a risk and fail in front of many people! Keep your life “safe” don’t take anymore risks, and forgo any needless suffering and pain from failing at all costs.

In addition, for bonus points, you can also never try to make the world a better place, never use your voice and express your opinion, and NEVER put yourself in a position to lose anything, ever.

There you have it. Give up and avoid everything in that list and you will have a life free of any strife. But I urge you to look at that list again… don’t you think that the trials in life might after all be worth it? I know I do and that is why I would never give up anything on that list.

The trick in life is not to avoid all pain and suffering or challenging experiences but to grow and become more resilient in the face of any discomfort life may throw at us. “We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.” – Abraham Lincoln

A life that is free of all pain and suffering? Sorry… it just doesn’t exist.

And thank goodness for that!
