6 Reasons You Are Not Reaching Your Goals

All of us have goals like losing weight, getting a better job, setting up our own business, and becoming more fit. If goals were so easy to reach we’d all be famous, wealthy, professional athletes, and ivy league graduates. Just having a goal is not enough; to get there you have to do the work and sometimes that can be a rough road.

If you find yourself stuck in your goals, you might be sabotaging your own efforts and by doing that you will stop your progress repeatedly. There are so many ways that you can prevent your progress but here are 6 specific reasons that might be keeping you from reaching your goals:

  1. You expect perfection. – There is no such thing as perfect timing when it comes to taking action to pursue your goals. Not only do we wait for the perfect time but we also get caught up in expecting the perfect circumstances or perfect results. By waiting for perfection we can wait ourselves right into perpetual procrastination. Say goodbye to perfection and your expectations and act now.
  2. Your goals are not big enough. – If your goals are not big enough, how can you expect to begin to get excited about achieving them? Make your goals big! Make them bold and make them compelling.
  3. You give up and quit too soon.It can be tempting sometimes to give up on a dream or a goal especially if you have been struggling along with limited to zero results. You are not seeing any signs of progress and your labors just are not bearing fruit. If you have lost your motivation and the energy that you once had, and you are thinking of giving up, I invite you to ask yourself these two questions. Have you done all that you can do? Do you want to give up because you are tired, or do you want to give up because you are tired of not getting any results? Often when people give up on a goal or a dream they are closer to their success than they realize. Think of the miners during the various gold rushes who gave up a claim to someone new who then found gold the next day after the original miners had given up. Keep digging.
  4. You procrastinate. – When you procrastinate, you keep putting things off. Instead of procrastinating, put all of your energy into moving forward instead of worrying about what you can and cannot do. Procrastination is a form of self-punishment all by itself. By putting things off that you need to get done it only serves to fuel a more negative self-image. Don’t procrastinate and give yourself a chance or reason to beat yourself up. Keep moving forward.
  5. You allow others to discourage you. – When you go for your goals, especially the big ones there will always be someone who will be there to try to discourage you. Their motives for doing that may be concern, jealousy, or fear, but what it really comes down to is their own insecurities. Let me ask you, how many goals have you given up due to the opinions and influence of others? If you want anything in this life bad enough, you will find a way to make it happen, so do that. Never allow anyone to discourage you from your goals.
  6. You flame out. – You see it every January. The gym fills up with everyone AND their New Year’s Resolutions wanting to finally get fit “this year.” They workout for hours using every machine and work themselves nearly to death. They flame out – and in a few weeks you never see them at the gym again. Pace yourself when you are working toward a goal instead of flaming out. A moderate, sustained effort is better than an intense burst that leaves you exhausted and tempted to just give up.

All of these reasons for not reaching your goals are all self-created problems. They are as easy to over look as they are to create. Your goals as are your results are in your hands and you can achieve them as long as you work for them. Notice if any of these 6 things are blocking you from your success and fix it if they are and then it’s a matter of time before you achieve results you seek.
