The Dark Side Of The Bright Side

Nearly all of us are taught the importance of always looking on the bright side. Be positive no matter what. We are told that you should always look for the unseen benefit and that no situation is negative unless you believe that it is.

While this mode of thinking is good in theory, in reality it is almost a guaranteed way to never achieve your goals or improve your life. If you are always looking on the bright side, you may use it as an excuse for not taking any action or going after your goals. If everything is so great, then why make any changes?

Positive thinkers believe that you should always look on the bright side and to a degree that is true. Many people dwell on the negative in their lives just to get attention from other people, which is sad when you think about it. Consider the Facebook friend who is always sick or has some other life drama going on and posting things constantly in order to get someone to feel sorry for them. This example of negative thinking and living is not the beneficial kind of negativity.

Sometimes negative thinking is necessary and required because it will get you in touch with reality. Sometimes a brutal dose of reality and truth is the key ingredient to make some serious changes that will result in a positive outcome. Just by calling a bad situation a good one does not change things in the real world.

Positive and negative thoughts both exist. The trick is to be in the middle and not one particular way or the other. People who are super negative blame everyone for all of their problems, while people who are super positive all the time tend to believe there is no room for improvement or in trying to make things better.

Life is both positive and negative and denying either polarity exists is simply unrealistic. The trick is to know when to apply which. Be positive when things are going well. When things are not going well, be honest, and use some negative energy to change it. By negative energy, I am referring to anger, irritation, frustration, and dissatisfaction.

One of the greatest ways that you ever get advantage on yourself to make a change is when you are so frustrated or dissatisfied with the way things are that you have no choice but to do something different. We strive to evolve when we are dissatisfied. Being dissatisfied is often what gets you to quit your dead-end job, or get out of a bad relationship. You never just up and leave or quit when things are going well do you?

Don’t fool yourself into thinking that your life is great when it really isn’t. Do something to change it. On the other hand, don’t be a negative cynic and blame the world for everything this is wrong in your life, take responsibility and use your dissatisfaction for motivation to change things.
