Decide And Then Act

decide and then actI was up high on a wind-blown ridge/ledge with what I consider a lot of exposure; straight down on either side and with me way outside of my comfort zone. I called it there and the group split up with some going on and some going with me taking a bail-route.

For me, I had about as much adventure as I could stand in that outing and to go on would not have been fun. I was in a place where I was not comfortable, was not having a lot fun, so I made the decision to end it there and have a pleasant hike out and still enjoy the day.

For me today, this was just a rocky ledge, but how many times in life do we find ourselves in situations that are just unpleasant, or do not agree with us. Do you stick it out, or do you choose another option. Today for instance, I took the opportunity to decide and then act – and take another course that turned out just fine.

Sure, a part of me felt like I was “quitting” but sometimes quitting for the greater good is not so bad especially there are more appealing possible outcomes. It may be best to quit when you are still able, when you are still strong and not weak and in this case quitting was a choice (it always is) but it wasn’t my last option or decision made out of desperation. A little fear maybe, but not desperation.

So just like I found myself today… If you find yourself where you don’t want to be in life then decide to go elsewhere. It really is just that simple. Decide and then act; thus moving yourself in a more desirable direction.
