Faith or Fear?

faith or fearA question that I often ask clients would be are they basing their actions on faith or fear? Are they keeping to their chosen path with the faith that things will work out in the end or are they just doing stuff out of fear trying to forestall some imagined tragic ending?

What about you in your daily life; Are you acting on faith or fear? What drives you to do the things you do?

Faith or Fear?

Fear? Fear is easy. We can always dream up nightmare scenarios, fortune tell, and choose to believe that the worse is going to happen to us and even greater, we can also convince ourselves that the worse, our ultimate doom if you will… is often just around the corner.

Fear is living your life always waiting for the other shoe to drop… Fear is never doing ANYTHING or taking any risks because you are afraid of being “wrong.” Fear is when you often find yourself saying, “it can’t get any worse,” while at the same time expecting it will and actually counting on it getting worse.

Fear isn’t any fun but fear is a choice… you can live in faith or fear – it’s up to you.

Let me ask you this… If you were not afraid, fearful, or scared, then what would you do? If your fear were not holding you back, what would you be doing with your life? What if you chose to live a life based on faith instead?

When I refer to faith, I don’t mean it in the religious sense but more so in the overall and universal sense that in the end, well, it all works out. And not only does it all work out, it often works out better than expected.

By faith, I don’t just mean faith in the universe, the cosmos, or in the natural order of things but instead, having faith and believing in yourself. Believe that you can win instead of losing. Believe that you can succeed rather than failing. Believe that there is more good in the world than evil. Maybe even just believe and have faith that the glass if half full instead of half empty.

Faith… faith takes courage, and courage is the opposite of being fearful if you think about it.

One of my favorite quotes from Deepak Chopra says:

“All of us were imprinted one of two ways; either the world is dangerous with moments of safety, or the world is safe with moments of danger.”

I believe that he draws the line between faith and fear quite clearly there… we are either prone to have faith or we are prone to be fearful. Though Chopra says we are “imprinted” or we develop that way, we can always learn and change if we want to. We can always choose faith over fear.

One of my tenants of faith if you will is this… we don’t always get what we want in life… often the universe gives us something even better.

Does that sound like faith or fear to you?
