Inspiring Game Of Thrones Quotes

I watch Game of Thrones. I am not sure how I was hooked into it a few years ago but it happened. This weekend’s episode is the last one of this season and in recognition of that, here are my favorite inspiring Game of Thrones quotes that I enjoy.

“A lion does not concern himself with the opinions of the sheep.” – Tywin Lanister

How often do forget that we are indeed powerful and that we are lions, yet we worry about what others think of us? This line reminds me to focus on my mission, my purpose, and myself and to disregard the thoughts, opinions, and assumptions that others may have of me.

“Once you’ve accepted your flaws, no one can use them against you.” – Tyrion Lanister

In a round about way I interpret Tyrions words to be about self-love. Know yourself, accept you flaws and weaknesses, embrace them even. Because once you have that self-knowledge, then others cannot use it against you. This is also a good case for why you should always be authentic!

“There is only one thing we say to death: “Not Today.” – Syrio Forel

This reminds me a lot of Carlos Castaneda’s writings but with a different twist. “Death is the only wise advisor that we have. Whenever you feel, as you always do, that everything is going wrong and you’re about to be annihilated, turn to your death and ask if that is so. Your death will tell you that you’re wrong; that nothing really matters outside its touch. Your death will tell you, ‘I haven’t touched you yet.” But in Game of Thrones, we find that we can also tell death, “Not today.”

“Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder.” – Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish

Chaos can be messy but it is also a huge catalyst for your growth and development in life. Think of all the times in your life when you were overwhelmed and did not know how you could manage. Did any of those times or situations happen to just end up becoming your new-normal? Didn’t your chaos become a ladder that you climbed to greater knowledge or even success?

“A very small man can cast a very large shadow.” – Lord Varys

Never use the size of something to measure its impact.

“All halls lead somewhere. Where there is a way in, there is a way out.” – Arya Stark

There is never just one path to take in life and all of the different paths that we can choose from often end at the same destination. Follow YOUR path.

“By what right does the wolf judge the lion?” – Jaime Lannister

For me this is a simple reminder to not judge others, period.

“What we don’t know is usually what gets us killed.” – Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish

You don’t know what you don’t know. This is a rather graphic example of that but always be aware that in any situation in life the unknowns typically outnumber the known facts..

Bran – “Can a man still be brave when he’s afraid?” Eddard – “That’s the only time a man can be brave.”

Life takes courage and it is courage that allows or forces us to take action when we are the most fearful. When life is at its hardest and you are struggling greatly, those are your strongest and most courageous moments. Just don’t give up.

Game of Thrones is one of my favorite shows and every week that I watch it I listen for the little nuggets of wisdom in that episode. Of course there are probably 1000’s of inspiring Game of Thrones quotes out there but these are my favorites.

Are you a Game of Thrones fan? Do you have any favorite quotes from the show that have inspired or motivated you in some way?
