Inspiring Others – 101

inspring othersWe live in a world where it’s easy to be inspired by the actions and words of others but don’t settle with just being inspired by others when you could be inspiring others yourself.

How many inspiring people do you know firsthand? How many friends, associates, or coworkers do you look at daily for inspiration? How many books, recordings, and lists of quotes do you take in to be inspired? What are you doing in return? Are you making an effort to blaze your own path while inspiring others at the same time?

It’s true, we all have fans and those whom we set an example for in life. It could be our coworkers, friends, family, our children, and sometimes… even strangers who see how we carry on through our day-to-day life.

Just as we all have people in our lives that inspire us, we are also inspiring others whether we realize it or not.

If you don’t believe me, here are seven ways and things that you probably do to inspire others that you might not even realize:

  1. You are there when needed. – When other people need you, you are present and available to them in the moment. This means you are capable of dropping all other distractions when someone who looks up to you requires your attention. It is inspiring to others when they know that they can depend on you to be consistently there. People are inspired when they know that others care about them. Listen to people, make them feel important, and inspire them by showing them that they are indeed important.
  2. You are more positive than negative. – You are able to find the good or positive spin in all (or at lest most) of life’s experiences. When others are feeling as if they are shaky ground or fearful, your positivity can be what inspires them to see the bright side of things when they could not otherwise.
  3. You get things done. – It is inspiring to others when people see you struggle and achieve what you set out to do while conquering adversity at the same time. Just get it done.
  4. You are your true and authentic self. – Inspiring others is quite easy when they see that you are authentically being you and not “faking it.” There is nothing more inspiring than seeing someone living on his or her own terms and not on someone else’s. It takes great courage to be an individual these days. By fearlessly being your true and authentic self, you inspire others to do the same and that is what we need in this world, more people who are themselves rather than people trying to be what they think they should be in order to fit in.
  5. You do what you love. – As much as it is inspiring to see people march to their own drummer it is even more inspiring to see people who are fully engaged and doing what they love to do in life, whatever that might be. Of course when you see people lovingly engaged in their profession or a cause of their choice while making a living at the same time, it makes you wonder why you cannot do it yourself. Life is too short to waste it trying to be someone that you are not and it is also way too short to spend all of it doing things that you do not love or not passionate about. So do what you love while you can!
  6. You share your failures as much as your successes. – It is easy to tell the tales of our successes in life in an effort to build up our images in front of other people. However, it takes great courage to share the not so glamorous parts of our lives as well, our failures. Allow yourself to be vulnerable. Be willing to share your failures as well as your successes because when you do that, others can relate to you. They’ll understand that they’re not the only ones with challenges, and by them knowing that you were able to overcome your challenges, it will inspire them and encourage them to overcome theirs.
  7. You lead by example. – Just because you turn around and don’t see anyone trailing right behind you does not mean that you are not a leader. You never know who is quietly following your example. Always speak and act with integrity, do what you say and say what you do. They say that integrity is doing the right thing when nobody is watching, but I believe that there is always someone watching and when they see us do the right thing for the right reasons, it inspires them to do the same.

I can guarantee that you have more people watching you than you realize. They are watching and waiting to see what you do and how you do it. The little things that you do today which you might not even consider may be a huge inspiration for others. Be a leader, be courageous, and be inspiring.

In the end, there are probably many ways that you are inspiring others that you are not even aware of; and if it is your goal to be inspiring to others – everything that you need you already possess to do so. Go ahead then and get out there inspiring others with who you are and how you live and love your life.
