Life – No Loitering Allowed

life - no loitering allowedAre you living or are your loitering? Are you actively participating in life day after day or are you standing on its storefront watching it all pass you by? Life is to be lived… no loitering allowed!

Life – No Loitering Allowed

The definition of these two words really explains the differences between living and loitering.

Life – the condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death.

Note the important words and phrases such as “capacity for growth” and “continual change preceding death.” To live is to grow and change until at which time you cannot grow and change anymore, meaning death.

Loiter(ing) – to stand or wait around idly or without apparent purpose.

Self-explanatory; but it is to do nothing while waiting for something (anything) to happen.

If you are loitering instead of living then I only have one word for you. Stop!

Stop waiting for the right opportunity to fall into your lap.

Stop just dreaming and aspiring and START taking some action in your life.

Stop staring at the mountain, get off your ass and climb the damned thing!

Life only works when you are a part of it. It is not a spectator sport where you get to sit on the sidelines and watch it all pass by. Life is a game, and it is a game that you can win, but only if you participate and play it yourself. So get in there and get at it!

When I was a kid, there was a stone wall in my small town and I remember the men who sat on that wall just about every day. I never understood what they were doing there, well; the bottles in the brown paper bags were a clue but still… They were loitering while possibly just waiting for their lives to start or maybe they had just given up. Who knows?

Metaphorically, I knew then and I know now that was not how I want to live or how life should be lived. To this day, whenever I see a No Loitering sign, that image of those men flashes in my mind and reminds me to live… not to loiter; to hop in and grab the wheel, and not a back seat.

Live your life… No Loitering Allowed!
