Look Under Every Rock

look under every rockOne thing I tell my clients or anyone that I am coaching on a particular subject is to make sure that they look under every rock. If you cannot find the answers or opportunities that you seeking look under every rock until you find it.

When I was a kid, pre-teen years, one of my favorite things to do was to catch crayfish. And the task of catching crayfish is pretty simple… you go to the creek, you get into the creek, and you turn over and look under every rock until you find a crayfish. If you want to find more… you just keep looking, turning over more stones.

Look Under Every Rock

Quite often we like to “give up” on things that we are attempting and our excuses often sound like, “well, I did all that I could,” or “I have tried everything.” But the reality is often quite different which is that you only did what you were comfortable doing or only felt like doing… what it comes down to is just refusing to look under every rock to find your next move or important information.

It can be tempting to give up on a dream or a goal especially if you have been struggling along with limited to zero results. If you have lost your motivation and the energy that you once had, and you are thinking of giving up, I suggest you ask yourself these questions before quitting:

  1. Have you done all that you can do? Really?
  2. Do you want to give up because you are tired, or do you want to give up because you are tired of not getting any results?
  3. Have you left any stones unturned that you could be looking under; have you sought out all of the information, opportunities, or maybe even the help that you need?

I always tell my clients to look under every rock. That even if an opportunity presents itself that might not seem 100% inline with what they want, check it out anyway. Turning over that particular stone could lead to a better and different path altogether, but at the very least, if it does not, they will know that as well.

Turn over every rock… persist until you succeed. Turn over every rock and if that one does not yield what you are seeking then continue flipping over the stones until one does.
