Seriously – Don’t Worry And Be Happy

be happyI have always found Bobby McFerrin’s song from 1998, Don’t Worry, Be Happy, to be a just a little bit annoying. Okay… greatly annoying, until last week when I was walking home and found myself worrying needlessly about at least ten different things.

Worrying is mostly a habit that I have gotten myself out of over the years. Before that it used to be a full time job AND my hobby as well. I was surprised, quite surprised, when I found myself worrying about all of the things that I was worrying about last week.

And that is about exactly when the lyrics to Don’t Worry, Be Happy popped into my head… and for once I had to hand it to the man… he was right. Stop worrying and be happy… what else can you really do?

Worrying will not put more money in your bank account.

Worrying will not solve your relationship problems.

Worrying about your job will not make it any better or find you a better one.

Worrying will not make your health any better and actually, it will make it worse.

Worrying will NOT fix anything! Period. Exclamation point!

And worrying about all of the things that I was worried about wasn’t going to solve my problems or make me any happier either. So I took Bobby McFerrin’s words to heart, stopped worrying, and decided to be happy instead.

When you worry about things, it is such a waste of energy and actually it is nothing but negative energy. And as one of my mentors once told me, “worrying is like praying for what you don’t want.” If you believe in the Law of Attraction, it makes sense… worrying is a negative energy that draws to you exactly the thing you are worried about.

Realize that worrying ain’t going to solve a thing, and in fact it is probably only going to make things worse… or at a minimum, cost you hours of precious sleep.

Be Happy! Decide to be happy when you find yourself worrying. Find the things to be grateful for that you can. Choose to see the positive outcomes rather than focusing on the potential negatives. If you want to protect yourself from the very things you are worrying about, being happy instead of worrying is truly your best defense.

Are the things that I found myself worrying about still out there? You bet they are, but instead of wasting my time and energy being down about it all or letting the worry drain me of precious energy, I choose to be happy instead and just let the chips land where they may, because in the end… that’s is exactly what is going to happen anyway.

Worrying won’t solve a thing, so I might as well just be happy!
