Some Questions For You Today

I am going to keep this brief and I only have a few questions for you today:

  1. What is your goal?
  2. What are you willing to put yourself through to achieve this goal?

Of course, these two questions lead to a couple extra ones:

  1. What do you stand to gain if you reach your goal? What is the payoff?
  2. What do you stand to lose or suffer if you don’t reach your goal? What is the cost if you don’t?

After asking yourself those last two questions and answering them, here are a few more:

  1. Are you willing to push through the discomfort and pain barrier when things get tough?
  2. Are you willing to keep going when all seems hopeless?
  3. Are you willing to keep going when others are telling you to give up?
  4. Are you willing to develop your skills and capabilities over many years to reach the highest standards required to achieve what may seem impossible?
  5. Are you willing to do whatever it takes to achieve your goals?

The last five questions are the most important ones. If you answered yes to all five then there is no reason why you cannot get to where you want to go eventually.

If you answered “no” to any of the last five questions then find out why. This is the difference between being all in and reaching your goal or only half-heartedly  just “trying” and never making it.

This is the ultimate framework in setting and reaching your goals. Define your goal, get clear on the payoff and cost if you reach or don’t reach your goal. And finally, gauge your own level of commitment and buy-in to get there.

Lastly… Are you willing to put yourself through whatever it takes to eventually be able to say, “I did it!”
