The Law of Attraction Lie

The-Law-of-Attraction-LieThis past week I have had many discussions with clients about the Law of Attraction. I believe in the Law of Attraction but I have also seen how people are manipulated by what I call the Law of Attraction lie.

By now, everyone is familiar with the Law of Attraction that simply states that what we think about, focus on, or what our feelings are, attracts the like. Think and feel good stuff, you get good stuff, constantly focus on the negatives of life and that will be what you get.

As I said, I believe in the Law of Attraction because there are too many instances in my life where I have seen it work. Does it work quickly? Not so much for the bigger things but ultimately I can and have seen it in play and unfold in my life.

Do I believe that the Law of Attraction is the end-all-be-all when it comes to getting what you want in life and creating what you want in life? NO! And this is where I will get myself into hot water with many of the Law of Attraction purists out there…

The Law of Attraction works… yes… but it is only a part of it all… the LOA is not going to get you anywhere without a lot of DHW – Damned Hard Work! This goes against what the true believers stand by which is that you really don’t have to lift a finger to make the LOA work… and this is where the Law of Attraction lie fits in…

There are coaches, and I dare say some unscrupulous coaches who actually the use the principles of the LOA incorrectly and ultimately use the Law of Attraction Lie AGAINST their clients… but let me be clear here, it isn’t just the LOA that is used against clients, bad coaches can use any principle or teaching as a stick rather than the carrot to entrap, beat on, and trick a client into thinking that the lack of results is actually the client’s fault.

To use the Law of Attraction lie as an example… Say a client is working with a coach who focuses solely on the LOA… the client wants to “attract” 100 new customers but is not having any success. Instead of helping the client to develop more powerful working strategies to meet that goal, the coach can use the LOA against the client, pointing out their failure because the client is “doing it wrong.”

At which point the coach insists on being paid more, working longer with the client, upselling another program to the client, etc… But let me point out again, this is not limited to just what I call the Law of Attraction lie. Many bad coaches out there do the same with a myriad of other methods. I’ve been there myself as a client and it sucks.

I had a business coach once who wanted me to make X many phone calls a day trying to get new clients. One… I hated making the calls as it felt intrusive, and to be honest, it isn’t my style. Guess what? It didn’t work! No matter how many calls I made each day, or each week, per “my coach” I was always doing it wrong, not doing enough, etc, because I wasn’t getting the “advertised results.”

The point is that along with the Law of Attraction lie, there are other sketchy methods that coaches can sell you on, and when those methods do not produce, it is easy to turn it around and blame the client, and that is WRONG.

Still, at the end of the day, I believe 100% in the Law of Attraction and as I alluded to earlier, it is just one arrow in your quiver, and it can’t be the only one. You actually need many and one of them had better be DHW… Damned Hard Work… and this is why… Work is energy output focused on a result… just as the LOA is “work” – energy, focused on a specific result. The LOA takes care of the “inner world” as it were, while DHW covers your bases in the “external world.” Make sense?

Yet here is the rub as I see it… All of the DWH in the world “might” get you to where you want to be but without the LOA and without the mental mindset that propels the Law of Attraction… it’s going to be harder… period.

The Law of Attraction in conjunction with Damned Hard Work, yeah.. that’s where the power is and when you join the two together, that is when you are going to see the greatest results and see those results more quickly. Don’t get suckered into the Law of Attraction lie believing your lack of results are because you suck at the LOA. The truth is that LOA is always working… it just comes down to how to make it work better and more effective for you.
