What You Want And What You Get

what you want and what you getMy Blog probably reads like a broken record when it comes to me saying, “Get clear on what you want.” Yes, it is that important but how do you reconcile the difference at times between what you want and what you get?

Mick Jagger sang… “you can’t always get what you want,” and he was right. He also followed that with, “but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need.”

He was right about that too!

A lot of times in life we don’t get what we want but we get what we need in that moment, and that’s okay. This is when gratitude plays an ever-increasing important part in life… what you get might only be “close” to what you wanted… fine! Appreciate that and celebrate that! Celebrate the match and have faith that the next time you will get EXACTLY what you wanted!

Me? I have a different view altogether and that is that when we don’t get what we want from the universe it is because the universe has something better in mind for us. When what you want and what you get from the universe doesn’t match it is up to you to believe that there is a reason and the reason is because something bigger, better, greater, etc, is what is coming your way.

Don’t believe me then try this… think of something that you wanted really, really, badly, that you didn’t get. Then reflect on what you got instead… Was it good, better or worse than what you originally planned or desired?

I know that I can think of many of the things that I wanted, goals that I had set and so on, that didn’t pan out. And I can honestly say that in the end everything turned out better than planned. In many ways different, yes… but still definitely better.

I wanted to live in Leadville, Colorado… I really did… instead I ended up in Aspen, Colorado… different… but WAY better!

Sure… what you want and what you get are often times not what you expected, wanted, or planned, but if you can relax about, be grateful for what you do get, and can have faith that how things ultimately end up are for your best… well… life is going to be so much easier for you, not to mention more interesting.
