When Failure Is Your Best Option

Sometimes it is just better to fail. You have probably heard the old saying “failure is not an option” but would you also be willing to believe that sometimes, failure IS your best option?

It might seem weird coming from a blog where I constantly write about success, achieving, goals, blah, blah, blah, but today I am encouraging you to do something different… go out and fail!

If you want to be an entrepreneur, great, and if your business fails, so be it. Once you have tasted the freedom and joy of being “self-employed” I can guarantee that you will never submit to working a straight job for “the man” ever again. It’s better for you to launch a business that fails, than successfully keep a dead-end job for 40 years. Go ahead and fail and I promise that you will learn valuable lessons that will get your business on track that will lead to your ultimate success.

Go ahead and write that book you have always wanted to write. If you can never get it published, or if you do get it published and it never sells, awesome! It’s better for you to write a book that flops than to just be a successful book critic. One of my best friends once told me that if I want to be a good writer that I need to write, all of the time. Learn how to write by writing books that fail and eventually you will learn enough to create your inspiring masterpiece.

Register and train for that running event that you have always wanted to do and then celebrate if you blow up and pull yourself out of the race at the halfway point. Learn from that failure and let it motivate you to do better the next time. It’s better to never finish a race than to never even try, and remember, no matter how bad you do, you are lapping everyone who is still on their couch.

It is always better to go for it and fail than to sit idly on the sidelines and never knowing if you can do a thing or not. It’s better to fail trying to do something that matters to you than to succeed in something that doesn’t.

There are no secrets or magic formulas to success in life. I can tell you that in many pursuits in my life I have failed a lot more often than I have succeeded and even when I did succeed it was only because I had deliberately placed myself in the right place at the right time. But even with those flukes and those strokes of luck, failure was a better option than to not show up at all.

“It’s better to make a mistake with the full force of your being than to timidly avoid mistakes with a trembling spirit.” – Dan Millman

Be willing to try anything that you truly want to do and be willing to fail gloriously doing it. Failure is your best option, always, when compared to fearfully doing nothing.

What can you do today or this week that you would fail at doing and how could you benefit in the long run from it?
