Why Peace Of Mind Is So Important

Why Peace Of Mind Is So ImportantMany years ago, on a camping trip, one of my friends and I were discussing many things and it was during one of our talks that I learned why peace of mind if so important. Not only that peace of mind was important but also why it is the most important thing of all.

I do not recall then entirety of our discussion but we got on the subject of patience and the idea of “praying for patience” and how that typically backfires. Praying for patience can work against us because as my friend told me, “if you pray for patience, then you are probably going to be getting many opportunities in life thrown at you in order to learn how to be patient.”  It definitely made sense when he explained it that way.

Then he added, “Instead of praying for patience, pray for peace of mind.”

Why Peace Of Mind Is So Important

Pray or ask for peace of mind instead… it is something that I took to heart and have worked to focus on these many years since. But why is peace of mind so important compared to something so lofty as patience? Easy… because when you have peace of mind it means that everything else in life is in-line, exactly where it is supposed to be, and how it is supposed to be.

Think about it… if you have peace of mind then everything “else” is right life. Your job, your relationships, your friends, your family, your health, your finances… everything is good because if it weren’t… if there was a point of contention somewhere, then chances are you would not have peace of mind.

And as I have “grown older” peace of mind is something that I place a very high value on, right up there with my own personal freedom. Peace of mind is what allows me to enjoy life and not get caught up sweating the small stuff. Peace of mind is what allows me to easily go to sleep at night without feeling the weight of the world spinning around in my head.

Make peace of mind a priority… even when it seems like everything is going to hell in a hand basket. The only place that peace of mind can exist is in your head and in this present moment… It isn’t past thing or a future thing… it’s a right now, in the present thing.

Because when it comes down to it… if you don’t have peace of mind then what you do have, really?
