You Will Die Where You Stay

I had a great run today but about ¾ of the way through it a storm blew in with rain, wind, snow, sleet, and groppel. I was at my turn around when it hit so I put on my hat, gloves, and jacket from pack before heading down. Hanging around was not an option for safety reasons and that is when I had this insight… “You will die where you stay.”

It seems like a rather drastic statement or idea to come up with on a run but there it was… if I had stayed there, hypothermia would have been likely as well as other issues. Unprepared it easily could have be life threatening.

You will die where you stay…

The bottom line is that you cannot grow if you stand in one place for all of your life. And in life there are really only two states of being… something is either growing or it is decaying and or dying.

Sometimes in order to free ourselves, we have to let go of things that are holding us back. You have to let go in order to grow. You can’t find or discover new paths when you are too fearful to venture off onto new ones. Staying in one place doesn’t take any courage, so be brave and strike out on your own.

Be brave; follow your instincts, and your intuition. If you find yourself somewhere in life, or in a situation that is unsatisfying, you will know it. Understand that it is okay to be wherever you are but that you also have the choice and the power to move on if you want.

The threats and consequences of staying in one place or becoming stagnant can be extremely obvious at times, like what happened on my run today. It couldn’t have been more obvious… but other times, not so much, the clues and hints may be more subtle. If you feel you are bored, restless, unsettled, and anxious about life, you are probably not moving forward. Feeling excited, energetic, passionate and enthusiastic about your life, is a good sign that you are growing.

Nothing happens while we remain in our comfort zone. If you stay there, you will die there… Without challenge, stress, or pressure we stagnate. In life there are only two modes where you are either growing or you are dying.

You will die where you stay – so get moving!
