Saturday Morning Cartoons

 Saturday Morning Cartoons

Do you remember Saturday morning cartoons when you were a kid? Do you remember the special Saturday morning usually right after Labor Day when they started airing all new Saturday morning cartoons and episodes – and how exciting that was?

Saturday Morning Cartoons

This morning was a great morning for me. I woke up at 4:15 – about 15 minutes before the alarm was supposed to sound off and started my day by goofing off sort of before getting out of bed. I checked email, the weather, the headlines… etc…  In a strange way, I felt like I was playing instead of getting myself ready to go to the track to run.

I don’t know if I had a memory, or just a sensation but this morning reminded me of being a kid and how excited I would be on the weekends for the Saturday morning cartoons.

Now being a kid, I was probably a bear to wake up any other day of the week for school or church, but I can guarantee that on Saturday mornings that I was the first one awake in the house long before anyone else was.

And those early hours alone were FUN! It was fun rummaging through the pantry, getting a huge bowl of cereal to sit in front of the television with… I’d be comfortable in my pajamas still, eating cereal, and just so darned happy to get to watch cartoons. I think as kid, life didn’t get any better than that.

By now, I am sure you are wondering how Saturday morning cartoons have anything to do with adult life or personal development…

How did you wake up this morning? How do you wake up most mornings… even on your weekends? Do you wake up dreading and cursing the day before your feet hit the floor or do you wake up with the excitement, the hope, and the wonderment of a child on the weekend who is excited to watch his or her favorite Saturday morning cartoons?

I don’t know but I would guess if you had your preferences you would rather start your day in the latter fashion rather than the former… I know that I would.

Changing my sleep habits over the past two years has probably been the most awesome and life-transforming thing that I could have ever done. How I start my day early, unrushed and rested makes life just so much better… But this morning’s experience got me thinking and gave me a new goal in life.

I have mastered sleeping and waking up early and quite often, I am up before the alarm goes off… Note: I believe that is always the best way to start the day. Now my goal is this… To try to not only wake up every morning but to wake up and greet day just like I would when I was a kid and I was so excited about waking up for the Saturday morning cartoons… Just like this morning.

I have set the bar high this past year in terms of my morning routines and making mornings “better” but now I think I have found a way to set the bar even higher. Can I do it everyday? Doubtful as there are still some nights that sleep is a struggle and the following morning IS a horror show featuring me as the lead zombie… but overall, I believe that I can make mornings even better than they have been and that is now my goal…

To greet each day excited as a kid on the weekend and not only that, to make my life as exciting, entertaining, and awesome as Saturday morning cartoons…
